It’s trolls, WUMs and bots that give social media a bad name, so here at FPP we occasionally have a TROLLWATCH post to call them out.

If anything RTÉ did too much work in producing this particular clickbait.

All they needed to incur the wrath of the Angry Irish Straight Men Brigade was the (clearly deliberately unflattering) photo and a headline that read “Lesbian Footballer Complained about Something”.

On a personal level it was good to be back defending Rapinoe once more after my earlier post suggesting her White House comments were ill-advised.

Paul Vanderheijden Having achieved a modicum of notoriety, whether deserved or not I leave for others to judge, for her comments regarding the White House she now must consider she has some special status to level criticism.

Personally, I consider her as a very good player, with a foul disposition and a big “chip on her shoulder”.

On the actual subject matter, she absolutely has a point. It’s all about the 24 hour news cycle these days and a senior World Cup final should have one all to itself.

A new series where we share political trollery from about the internet, particularly ones we responded to. You’ll probably find most of these will come from Journal.ie but to kick things off we’re going to share with you the latest offerings from an Irish pro-Trump troll I’ve picked up on my personal Facebook account. I’ve been driving him crazy lately by simply replying ‘OK’ over and over again but eventually this time I did him the courtesy of a lengthy reply. At time of writing it has been 9 hours since the comment was sent and he has not replied, even though he was leading comments himself up to about ten minutes before my message.

Sorry I didn’t ‘debate’ you last night but I didn’t for two reasons (1) I was out with friends so I didn’t have time to write long replies, and (2) going by your words from the very first sentence of your very first comment in this thread, and by your other contributions to my page for that matter, you don’t want to debate, you want to bait.

However, since you have clearly devoted a lot of time & effort to get my attention, I guess I really should offer some response and I would be willing to discuss this topic with you here if you like.

Just to be remind you, the topic under discussion here is Night 2 of the First Democratic Debate on NBC, and before we proceed I have one simple yes or no question for you – did you watch it all?

Can you believe this quote??? I mean, seriously???

Just for the purpose of this post, I’d like to put a pin in the whole “EJ Carroll v Donald Trump” issue. My intention here is not to explore what actually transpired, rather how he has responded to the allegation.

Might I suggest a ‘Number 3’ for the president’s list – “No. 3 I WOULD NOT DO THAT”. In fact, while I’m at it, how about he moves that up his list to number one??? In fact, while I’m at it, how about he doesn’t bother with the other two points???

This man is such a (to quote his first choice as Secretary of State) “fucking moron” that he doesn’t even know how to respond to an accusation of sexual assault, and it’s not as though it’s his first time.

And if he’s this dumb, what does that say about all of those who still support him?

Finally, to take that pin back out, of course I believe the accuser, though I certainly wouldn’t want him to be denied a day in court to prove his supposed innocence.
